Expedia Group and its family of brands* teamed up with UNICEF USA for a new campaign in August 2021, calling on travelers to "help safely re-open the world, one trip and one shot at a time." For every purchase** made via one of Expedia Group’s mobile apps, the company would make a donation to support UNICEF's global COVID-19 response.

The Give the World A Shot campaign raised more than $10 million in support of UNICEF's efforts to ensure the equitable distribution of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, diagnostics and treatments to low- and middle-income countries. In addition to providing financial support, Give The World A Shot helped raise awareness of the importance of vaccine equity and closing the gaps in global vaccine allocation around the world.

In May 2022, the campaign was recognized by Engage for Good for its positive social impact, winning the Gold Halo Award for Best Consumer-Activated Corporate Donation Initiative and the Best of the Best Award.

The campaign reflects Expedia Group's vision of travel as a force for good. “At Expedia Group, we are a passionate group of employees with a deep understanding of the power travel has to expand horizons and strengthen connections," Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter Kern said. “We support a global and equitable approach to vaccine distribution and embrace efforts to help protect everyone, everywhere...We all must do our part for the world to be truly open again.”

Finishing the race to end the pandemic

UNICEF has been leading the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation ever on behalf of the COVAX. As new variants of concern remain a significant risk, UNICEF is focusing on vaccinating priority groups in low- and middle-income countries with low vaccination rates.
