Marriott's Check Out for Children: Making lifesaving impact

For over 30 years, Marriott has mobilized to support UNICEF’s work to help children survive and thrive around the world. Since 1995, Check Out for Children has helped raise over $53 million and supported UNICEF in reaching more than 4.5 million children in 40+ countries.

In 2023, UNICEF relaunched and expanded the program in partnership with Marriott International to accelerate progress for children and their families.

Guests at over 500+ participating Marriott International properties across the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions are invited to add $1, or the local equivalent, for each night of their stay – which equals lifesaving impact for those who need it most.

Since the relaunch, Check Out for Children has raised over $500,000 and counting. Donations support UNICEF’s Core Resources: UNICEF's most flexible funding source, ready to move wherever and whenever the need was greatest.

UNICEF’s 2025 Annual Report evaluated that globally:

  • 213 million children needed humanitarian assistance;
  • 412 million children are affected by extreme poverty, living on less than $3 per day;
  • 270 million children and young people are out of school;
  • and 43 million children suffer from wasting - a condition in children where they are too thin for their height and is the most visible and life-threatening form of malnutrition.

Through supporting Core Resources, Check Out for Children’s support of UNICEF’s work allows UNICEF to respond quickly to these crises, anticipate future risks, and build resilience by allocating funds where there is the greatest need for children. These flexible funds are the most effective way to save and improve the lives of children.

Together with partners, UNICEF went where others could not and stayed as long as needed. With support from partners like Marriott, UNICEF is meeting children's needs today and protecting the years that shape everything, for every child, everywhere.
