Greeting Card Content Winners Announced

The winner of the 2009 Pier 1 Imports/UNICEF Greeting Card Contest is Julie Hermann, age 13, from Solana Beach, California! Julie received the grand prize award for her artwork, which will be reproduced as an official UNICEF greeting card, sold exclusively at Pier 1 Imports stores in the U.S. during the 2009 holiday season. Along with the honor of having her design turned into a greeting card, Julie will receive a grand prize $5,000 scholarship, along with $500 worth of art supplies for her school.

The first-ever "People's Choice Award," in which visitors to the Pier 1 website were able to vote for their favorite design, was given to Joe Peterson, age 13, from Lykens, Pennsylvania. As the "People's Choice Award" winner, Joe will receive $500 worth of art supplies to help further his career as a budding artist.

"Both children are remarkable and talented individuals that are passionate about raising awareness and funds for UNICEF," said Caryl Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. "The artwork produced will not only provide necessary funding, but will help raise awareness and decrease the number of preventable childhood deaths from 25,000 to zero."

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of this, as well as all UNICEF cards sold at Pier 1, will go to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Don't forget to look out for the winning designs this fall at your local Pier 1 Imports stores.

Congratulations to Julie and Joe!
