Elementary students in UNICEF Kid Power school program participate in presentation

Virginia Students Excited to Save Lives for a Second Year in a Row

Empowered students ramp up for another opportunity to help children, like themselves, in need.

Wriggling in their seats and excitedly whispering to one another, the 5th graders at Alexandria Country Day School were eager to hear this year’s Kid Power presentation, given by DC Community Engagement Fellow, Joy Robertson. The students were returning to the program again after participating in the 2016 School Program.

Several students showcased their deep understanding of nutrition and nutrients, but it was a privilege to remind them of the importance of the two complex problems UNICEF Kid Power aims to solve: 1 in 4 American kids do not get enough physical activity, while 1 in 4 children globally are malnourished.

Already separated into teams by their advisory groups, the students were proud to share how many steps and Kid Power Points they’d earned on their Kid Power Bands that day, and – to no surprise – extra motivated to get active and save lives during brain breaks throughout the presentation!
