As trying as Harriet's situation is, there are many things going right for her: Her diagnosis comes early enough to establish preventive treatment to avoid mother-to-child transmission; She is getting quality health care for free in a setting close to home; She understands the importance of continual medication and counseling; And she has the support of invested health care workers who expect husbands and partners to be just as supportive! It's the recipe for an HIV free generation that UNICEF is promoting in every country we work in.
