Hurricane Katrina 10 Years Later

The hurricane’s aftermath was the only time in history that UNICEF was called on to provide aid in America — school supplies, art supplies and recreational kits to children forced from their homes by the terrible storm.

UNICEF USA’s video director Mia Drake Brandt, who accompanied a truck that delivered these supplies to New Orleans kids, remembers: “We drove through the night to Meridian, Miss., with supplies that had been flown into an Arkansas Air Force base. The next day, we distributed them at churches and shelters. Those kids were so, so happy. It was the first time since losing everything that they had really been able to play.”
