UNICEF USA on the Proposed Separation of Families at the Border

STATEMENT FROM CARYL STERN, PRESIDENT AND CEO, U.S. FUND FOR UNICEF

NEW YORK (March 7, 2017) “Children who arrive at our southern border from Central and South America have been uprooted due to conflict, violence and severe poverty – circumstances beyond their control. They faced a dangerous, harrowing journey that no parent would ever put their child through if they had any other option.

We are deeply concerned that the separation of children from their parents is being considered as policies are being developed, as this runs contrary to their best interests. We implore U.S. leadership to consider the safety and wellbeing of all children, recognizing that they bear no responsibility for political differences. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF remains hopeful that we as a nation, and as citizens, can work together to put children first.”
