How UNICEF 'Scouts' Are Tackling Vaccine Hesitancy in Niger
A public awareness campaign, a UNICEF initiative in collaboration with Niger's Scouts Association, is underway in Niger to debunk myths and boost confidence in vaccines to support the country's COVID-19 vaccination drive.
Watch Scout Aboubacar Bizo Rachida as she goes door to door in Naimey to share information about COVID-19 prevention and encourage people to get vaccinated to protect their own health and the health of their community.
"What we're doing is encouraging them, rather than compelling them to do it, to stop them from getting ill," Rachida says.
UNICEF has also enlisted the help of traditional leaders to help increase uptake. In Niger, traditional and religious leaders have deep and trusted relationships with members of their communities, particularly with the most vulnerable, and so are well placed to address inequities in accessing critical services — such as immunization — that stem from social norms and practices.
