Statement from UNICEF USA President and CEO, Michael J. Nyenhuis, on U.S. Department of State $93 million grant for Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food
NEW YORK (August 11, 2025) - The U.S. Department of State announced a $93 million grant to UNICEF to deliver Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to nearly 1 million acutely malnourished children across 13 countries.
UNICEF welcomes this commitment from the U.S. government. It affirms a longstanding bipartisan tradition of supporting the world’s children, reflects our American values and strengthens America’s global leadership.
It also emphasizes UNICEF’s investment in American businesses. Last year, UNICEF invested $770 million in American businesses across 37 states to procure RUTF, medicine and other humanitarian supplies. The RUTF to be manufactured, transported and delivered as part of this $93 million grant is entirely American made.
The needs remain immense.
