IKEA and UNICEF's Partnership: Supporting Global Programs that Help Save Children's Lives

Supporter since 1988

IKEA U.S. has sold UNICEF holiday greeting cards — donating 100 percent of the sales proceeds to UNICEF USA — since 1988. To date, IKEA has raised over $9.4 million from card sales for UNICEF's global programs for vulnerable children.

Each holiday season, IKEA selects 16 UNICEF card designs and prominently displays them throughout each store. The collection features a range of themes, featuring winter scenes and whimsical and traditional designs.

In past years, the company's charitable foundation supported a number of UNICEF programs, including efforts in India to reduce child and maternal mortality through healthnutritionclean water and sanitation interventions. In November of 2013, the IKEA Foundation donated $2.6 million to support relief efforts in the aftermath of the Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. And in 2012, IKEA Foundation donated $1.3 million to support UNICEF’s emergency response in South Sudan, helping to protect the health and safety of children displaced by conflict.

From 2003-2013, as part of the annual “Soft Toys for Education” cause-related marketing campaign, the IKEA Foundation donated 1 euro for each soft toy and children's book sold in over 300 IKEA stores worldwide during the months of November and December — generating more than $51 million over the 10 years to support UNICEF's education programs around the world.
