Xavier

This is Xavier’s second year on the UNICEF USA National Youth Council. He is a student at Reed College pursuing Political Science and Social Justice. He looks to expand his experience in understanding systems, to work within them, so he can change them. Xavier has resided in Oregon all of his life, which alludes to his desire to travel and experience new things in and out of his community. His advocacy journey started within his local government, which showed him the importance of having youth perspectives represented in impactful decision-making. This is what brought him to UNICEF USA, advocating for young people's rightful place at the table next to the solutions, not just the problems. Xavier looks to embody the philosophy that "compassion has no borders," and working on the National Youth Council has given him the outlet to enact that on a larger platform. He is a strong advocate, but above all else, he is a human being trying to stay grounded in those around him, live in the moment, have vivid memories to look back on, and leave an impact that succeeds him. A big goal of his is to open the doors of civic opportunity so wide that people can't help but walk in.
