More than 1.2 million children and teachers are in dire need of educational support and safe working conditions in Haiti, where ongoing violence has taken a severe toll on families and the services they rely on. Escalating violence in Port-au-Prince is now spreading to other municipalities, severely disrupting attendance and forcing schools to close.

Students share their determination to continue their education, despite the unfolding crisis. "Last year, violence nearly prevented my friends, other children in the country and me from going to school," one student says. "Despite the difficulties, I have always remained hopeful in what education can offer us. This hope gave me the motivation I needed to start this new school year." "For every child to go to school and achieve their dreams, we need everyone to help keep them safe and provide a supportive learning environment," another student adds.

UNICEF and partners are ramping up efforts to reach children across the country, working alongside the Haitian government to ensure that displaced and out-of-school children have access to formal and non-formal education. Read our stories about UNICEF in action: https://www.unicefusa.org/stories
