The 2016 UNICEF Ball
On January 12th 2016, the Southern California region hosted the sixth biennial UNICEF Ball at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel presented by Louis Vuitton. The UNICEF Ball is one of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s most spectacular galas and brings together philanthropists, celebrities, and community leaders to raise funds for UNICEF’s global lifesaving programs.
Celebrated with a special performance by Multi-Grammy Award Winner Mariah Carey, this year’s Ball honored C. L. Max Nikias, President of the University of Southern California, and UNICEF’s longtime Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham. Nikias received the Spirit of Compassion Award for his efforts to foster active global citizenship within a generation of students, while Elton John and David Furnish presented Beckham with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Leadership Award for using his influential voice to protect children worldwide. Beckham recently launched 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund, which aims to help protect millions of children from danger.
The night featured both a live and inspired gifts auction of items that will provide emergency relief and high-impact life-saving solutions for the world’s most vulnerable children. A record-breaking success, The UNICEF Ball raised more than $2.6 million dollars for children.
