Clone of Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock
In the heart of Manhasset, Long Island in the state of New York, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock is a loving community founded in Unitarian Universalism principles of kindness, compassion and spirituality working for a just world. The seven principles of the Unitarian Universalism indicate, the respect, worth and dignity of every person is equally balanced with the role each individual and community having in making the world a peaceful and equal place for all.
One example of this commitment is UUCSR's support of UNICEF's work with refugee children in Greece. In 2017, UNICEF USA was honored to be a recipient of the Large Grants program at UUCSR. The grant program provides support for efforts within the religious and spiritual mission of the congregation. To date, UUCSR through their Large Grants Program has supported work both globally and locally in the Long Island community.
“We are happy to be able to make this contribution to help the refugee children in Greece and further UNICEF’s mission.” ~Carol Garbarino, UUCSR Large Grants Advisory Group Chair
UUCSR's support to UNICEF's relief efforts in Greece for refugee children focuses on meeting the immediate needs of refugee women and children who have been displaced from their homes in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq as a result of conflict. UUCSR’s support helps scale the humanitarian response in Greece, where most children are stranded, and continue to deliver integrated packages of child protection, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene interventions to those who need it most. Together, UUCSR and UNICEF USA are impacting the lives of thousands of refugee children and their families during a time when they need it most.
