Partner since 1999: GE Foundation's Charitable Partnership With UNICEF USA Is Doing a World of Good
The GE Foundation began its partnership with UNICEF by supporting emergency relief programs and by initiating a company matching gift program. Currently, the foundation supports both emergency relief and early childhood development projects.
The GE Foundation provides ongoing support for UNICEF’s emergency programs through grants and its employees/business units. GE's generous support of relief efforts includes general emergency assistance programs, the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the Beslan school tragedy in Russia, the severe flooding in Tabasco, Mexico, the earthquakes in Bam, Iran and Peru, and most recently, the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
Early Childhood Development
The GE Foundation has provided grants to UNICEF's early childhood development programs—specifically in Brazil, China, Mexico and Indonesia. These programs offer a collection of services that work together to enhance a child's physical, emotional and intellectual development during the building-block years. Initiatives encompass a broad range of activities from involvement in policy development to providing services.
Recently, the GE Foundation has supported primary education in Rwanda within UNICEF's Child-Friendly Schools Initiative. The aim of the program is to eliminate the barriers to a quality education for Rwanda's youth including overcrowding, gender inequality, teacher preparation and sanitation facilities.
