In Uruguay, COVID-19 Vaccine Gives Great-Great-Grandma 'Another Life'

August 17, 2021

For 92-year-old Francisca Ohaco Magallanes, the COVID-19 pandemic has been a lonely experience. "It feels strange losing touch with my children," she says. "We speak on the phone, but it's not the same."

The great-great-grandmother from Villa Soriano, Uruguay was thrilled to receive her first dose of COVID-19 vaccine after a shipment arrived via COVAX, the global vaccine allliance.

"For me, it's like reinforcement, another life I've been given," she says. "I might not make it to 93, but now I think I will."
