The UNICEF Experience in Dallas

On Friday, February 24, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF launched The UNICEF Experience at The Goss-Michael Foundation in Dallas, Texas. A truly unique event, the UNICEF Experience showcased UNICEF's lifesaving work through interactive exhibits, allowing guests to experience what vulnerable children in developing countries face just to survive. A truly unique event, the UNICEF Experience showcased UNICEF's lifesaving work through interactive exhibits, allowing guests to experience what vulnerable children in developing countries face just to survive. With nearly 300 guests, the event surpassed its goal and raised nearly $70,000 that evening for sending UNICEF Inspired Gifts  such as first aid kits, emergency tents, and water pumps to children around the world. To quote a guest, "It is great to be able to buy things for people in need rather than something else for myself."

Guest participated in activities including carrying water buckets as heavy as those carried by women fetching water in the developing world; dropping tokens in a "wishing well" that will supply water pumps to countries most in need of safe water;  writing wishes for the world's children and posing for photos in a photo booth; reading personal stories about the lives that have been impacted by UNICEF's work; and shopping for lifesaving Inspired Gifts. Notable guests included Jesse Metcalfe, star of the upcoming revival of the classic TV series Dallas, former Dallas Cowboy and current Miami Dolphin, Marc Colombo, and many prominent local philanthropists and business leaders. The UNICEF Experience was a special opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the world's children, all without leaving Dallas! As a member of the Southwest Regional Board it was a privilege for me to chair this inaugural event for UNICEF in Dallas-Fort Worth.
