Take a Trick or Treat photo with Fordham University!

We all know a beautiful photo can take you far on Instagram so why not combine two things we all love- UNICEF and Insta-worthy photos?!  Former Fordham University UNICEF Club President and current NYC Community Engagement Fellow, Monica Olveira, is here to give you a step by step guide on how to host a photo campaign fundraiser!

What sparked the idea to first host a photo campaign?

  • We started our club in early September and knew that with October right around the corner, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF was a perfect, first opportunity to make our mark on campus. Running a social media campaign seemed like a fantastic way to reach as many students as possible and inform them about UNICEF’s work! We were lucky to know a few students on campus who were extremely talented photographers and who were willing to become key partners in this campaign.

What was your favorite part of hosting the photo campaign?

  • The best part about this campaign was getting to work with such a huge part of our student body! We partnered with nearly every sports team, club, and performing group on campus and got to really understand the power of coming together and raising our voices. Plus – we got some pretty fun photos out of it. It was a win-win!

What was one challenge you encountered? And how did you overcome that?

  • At first, it was extremely difficult to figure out the logistics behind the campaign. We needed to coordinate photoshoots with photographers, student groups, and UNICEF club members and this was no easy task! We managed to stay organized by keeping detailed excelled sheets and really relying on one-another as UNICEF E-Board members.

How could students potentially use this idea for another UNICEF moment/campaign?

  • There’s so much potential to transform our photo campaign and apply it to other key areas of UNICEF’s work. All it takes is figuring out what works best for your particular club and modifying it to meet your school’s needs! For example – World Children’s Day, End Trafficking Month or World Water Day are all key times of year to activate on behalf of child rights. These are all amazing times of year to host a photo campaign at your school and inspire your fellow school-mates to join you!
