Each year, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and partner Pier 1 host a the Pier 1 Imports/UNICEF Greeting Card Contest. Recently the Harriman, NY Pier 1 hosted this year's winner, Kelsey Fosstveit, a 13-year-old from nearby Cornwall, NY.

Kelsey joined Harriman's team meeting to take pictures discuss her inspiration for the card. The theme for this year's contest was "Joy in every color, peace in every heart" which is also the quote on the inside of the card. Focusing on this theme, Kelsey designed the background of the card to resemble the planet's continents and oceans. The dove was chosen to symbolize peace and she added the heart in the middle of the dove to complete the notion of "peace in every heart."

All of the colors and the word joy continue the theme of "Joy in every color". The dove (peace) and the "Joy" float over the planet to reinforce all of our hope that peace and joy can ring out around the world. Kelsey was honored to win in only her second time entering the contest and is happy to think that her work is going to help less fortunate children around the world.

Store manager Tracey summed up the visit from Kelsey: "It was a tremendous pleasure to have Kelsey come in and meet with our team. She's an incredible young lady. Here's hoping we can all take her inspiration and use it to sell those UNICEF cards this season, doing our part to spread peace and joy!!!"
