Celebrating the paperback release of her book, I Believe in ZERO: Learning from the World’s Children, we welcomed Caryl M. Stern, as the featured speaker in our Saving Children: A Speakers Series Luncheon on October 7th. Caryl’s book recounts her personal, and remarkable, stories from the front lines of UNICEF’s work around the world.
During the intimate luncheon at the Mr. C Hotel, Beverly Hills, Caryl spoke passionately about UNICEF’s efforts for children, and employed powerful lessons learned throughout her 25+ year career in public service. She shared stories from her travels to places such as Bangladesh, Mozambique, Haiti, and the Brazilian Amazon, where she visited with children and families suffering or vulnerable to malnutrition, disease and unspeakable violence. And yet, Caryl shared stories of great joy and hope—stories of the incredible resilience of the human spirit—experiences that rooted and reinforced her belief of why UNICEF’s efforts are so deeply critical.
As an unprecedented number of Level-3 emergencies —the UN’s highest rating—unfold globally, the need for the American public to rally together for children today has never been more significant. Showcasing Caryl’s unique point of view as President & CEO, Wife, Mom and Friend, she inspired guests to take action in the way that is most personally meaningful.
