Shut Out Trafficking Launches for 2015-2016

This fall, we’re visiting Drake University, University of Massachusetts at Boston, University of South Florida, and University of South Alabama. At each school, we will help facilitate a week’s worth of programming to educate four unique communities on the issue of human trafficking.

Human trafficking has been reported in every U.S. state. That’s why we are heading into our second year of Shut Out Trafficking and travelling across the country to mobilize college campuses to take action against trafficking.

Today we officially kick off our 2015-2016 Shut Out Trafficking season.

This fall, we’re visiting Drake University, University of Massachusetts at Boston, University of South Florida, and University of South Alabama. At each school, we will help to facilitate a week’s worth of programming to educate four unique communities on the issue of human trafficking. From film screenings to football games, PSAs to panel discussions, Shut Out Trafficking partners with universities to combat human trafficking through the power of student activism.

Here is an overview of the semester:

  • Drake University: November 2nd-6th
  • UMass Boston: November 9th-13th
  • University of South Florida: November 16th-20th
  • University of South Alabama: December 1st-5th

In its pilot year, Shut Out Trafficking engaged ten cities and reached over 19,460 people during the fall and spring semesters. We had a tremendous impact through online media with numerous blogs, press releases, and news clips, as well as 10.9 million impressions on Twitter with the hashtag #ShutOutHT.

But this year, our goals are even higher and we can’t wait to share our successes with you.

Keep up with us as we travel to Des Moines, Boston, Tampa, and Mobile. We will be in four states within five weeks and we are so excited to get started. Read more about our schedule for this semester here and stay tuned for updates!
