As the underlying cause of more than one third of all child deaths, malnutrition is a leading killer. But it is also a pervasive and chronic threat to child welfare. When it doesn't kill outright, malnutrition saps young bodies of the strength to fight disease, the mental stamina to make the most of education and the power to break the cycle of poverty. It forces parents to make stark choices between keeping their children healthy and investing in their futures.
