The Pulitzer Center maps UNICEF data to show the world's remarkable progress in reducing child mortality.
An interactive map recently produced through a partnership between the Pulitzer Center and UNICEF illustrates the dramatic improvements made worldwide over the last two decades in reducing child mortality. The map, which relies on UNICEF data, provides country-by-country context. For example, deaths for children under 5 in India have dropped by more than half since 1990, but India still accounts for a quarter of child deaths globally. Sierra Leone lags behind global progress with the highest child mortality rate in the world, while China's child survival rate is fast approaching that of the U.S. and Europe.
