Emergency UNICEF Supplies Arrive in Haiti

As a devastated Haiti struggles with unsafe water, UNICEF and UPS touch ground with critical supplies to ward off disease.

UNICEF and UPS have joined forces to deliver lifesaving supplies to families.

A B-747 flight donated by the UPS Foundation touched ground in Port-au-Prince on October 20, carrying 100 tons of UNICEF emergency medical and educational supplies packed in UNICEF’s Global Supply Warehouse in Copenhagen.

Emergency cargo included 30 million water purification tablets and 1 million sachets of Oral Rehydration Salts to ward off cholera and acute diarrhea — plus enough midwifery kits for 50 safe deliveries. © UNICEF/UN036396/Guhle

DISASTER RELIEF

Founded in 1946 to help children suffering in the aftermath of World War II, UNICEF provides children and families with disaster relief whenever emergencies strike. A disaster's severity often depends on a community's vulnerability. UNICEF works to reduce risks and increase resiliency by helping shape the choices children and their families make about about where they grow their food, how solidly they construct their houses, and even what they teach in school. This helps prepare for the worst, while hoping for the best.

UNICEF has been working in Haiti to provide a brighter future to the country's children since 1949.
