Guests at the Children First UNICEF Speaker Series

Children First UNICEF Speaker Series with Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine

On Nov. 6, 2014 the New England Regional Office hosted the first event in our 2014-2015 annual speaker series. Now in its 13th year, this speaker series attracts women and men from the professional and philanthropic communities in Boston to an intimate event with a brief presentation by the featured speaker followed by an enriching Q & A session.

We were fortunate to have Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine attend as our featured speaker for the event to speak more on her about her work in the Philippines following the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan. Geraldine was on one of the first flights to Manila after Typhoon Haiyan hit, and immediately began helping the relief effort, including translating local dialects for rescuers and volunteering with UNICEF, the Joint Distribution Committee, and other partners. Her work was an invaluable resource to the rescue effort, and her continued compassion, advocacy, and commitment to helping the Philippines “build back better” is an inspiration to all. As a UNICEF supporter and advocate, Geraldine is helping to put children first in the wake of this disaster, ensuring that kids are back in school, and with access to psycho-social support and child protection services.
