Chicago Young Ambassadors Help Nepal Kids with the UNICEF 7K Run

The morning of Sunday, May 3rd, was a beautiful spring day with the sun shining brightly and the flowers blooming vibrantly. Bizar Entertainment provided motivating music at the start and finish line. Snacks and water were available. At every mile in between, color station volunteers tossed neon blue, pink, yellow, and purple powder on the participants, creating a fun, positive energy. In addition to having a blast, we raised over $26,000--all of which went to UNICEF's Nepal Earthquake relief efforts!

Over 320 people ran, walked, or skipped the trail that circled the Skokie Lagoons at 644 Forestway, Glencoe. Many of the participants were Young Ambassadors and their friends, who were also joined by parents with strollers, adorable dogs, and children on small scooters. Our fastest runner was 14 year old Alex Kogen (492) of Glencoe who finished the 4.4 mile trail in 28 minutes. Lisa Dombro was the first female finisher, and the first Young Ambassador finisher was Brennan Dombro. Last year’s winner, Ben Citow (111), placed second this year and plans on taking the “trophy” back next year.

Karen Citow, Indira Saladi, Ashley Prasad, and Amy Brown lead the Young Ambassadors team to pull off this huge success in collaboration with the US Fund for UNICEF Midwest Regional Team, which included Casey Marsh, Beth mcCostline, Marshaun Montgomery, and Brianna Hutchison. We far surpassed expectations with more than 320 particiapnts and more than $26,000 raised to benefit Nepal.

Great job, everyone, and we hope you will join us again next year!
