Chemical Warfare Is Suspected in Deaths of Syrian Children
At least 42 people died trapped in their homes in a reported poison gas attack in Syria. More than 500 were injured.
A deadly reported chlorine gas attack has killed at least 42 people, including infants and toddlers, and injured more than 500 in the rebel-held suburb of Douma, east of Damascus. Many of the dead were found in their own homes, trapped in makeshift basement shelters. Survivors with burning eyes, foaming mouths and breathing problems were rushed to clinics.
UNICEF has been on the ground in Syria since this civil war began, working to protect and save children from this endless violence.
“The children of Syria have witnessed and experienced unimaginable suffering over the past seven years. This can be stopped. It needs to stop now," says UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore. "Children are dying before our eyes.”

The attack is the latest atrocity in an agonizing war that has devastated the nation and fueled a global migrant crisis. A generation of Syrian children is growing up surrounded by violence, hiding from daily air strikes and bombardment. Syria has become the world's largest producer of both internally displaced people and refugees. Syria's children need our help now more than ever.
