NEW YORK (January 27, 2015) – The U.S. Fund for UNICEF announced today the winners of the annual Pier 1 Imports®/UNICEF greeting card contest. The theme this year is “Spreading Holiday Cheer.” Sriya, age 7, from California, is this year’s recipient of the Grand Prize Award for her artwork, which will be reproduced as an official UNICEF greeting card, and sold exclusively at Pier 1 Imports stores across the country and on during the 2015 holiday season. The U.S. Fan’s Choice Award was presented to Elisa, age 14, from Georgia.

“We are grateful to our partner Pier 1 Imports for their continued support these last 30 years, and for helping us to raise awareness among America’s youth about UNICEF’s lifesaving work,” said Caryl Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. “We applaud the hundreds of children nationwide who participated in the 2015 annual greeting card contest, and congratulate the two talented youngsters who are this year’s winners.”

About the winners:

  • Sriya’s Grand Prize-winning artwork depicts a snowman on top of a train visiting children throughout the world. Her inspiration was of Santa Claus giving out presents to children.  In addition to Sriya’s design on this year’s greeting card, she will receive a $5,000 scholarship and $500 worth of art supplies for her elementary school.
  • The 2015 “U.S. Fan’s Choice” winning design was created by 14 year-old Elisa and represents children from different cultures coming together to celebrate Christmas. Elisa depicted the cultures by the children’s clothing. Elisa will be awarded $500 in art supplies.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of all UNICEF cards sold at U.S. Pier 1 Imports stores and on during the 2015 holiday season will go to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to support UNICEF’s work to put children first by providing lifesaving medicines, vaccines, nutritious foods, primary education, clean water and sanitation, and emergency relief to vulnerable children around the world.

Pier 1 Imports began selling UNICEF greeting cards in 1985.  During its successful 30-year partnership, Pier 1 Imports has raised more than $34.8 million for UNICEF.
