Bhutanese Communities in America

When two devastating earthquakes in Nepal struck in April and May 2015, thousands of lives were claimed, and there was immense destruction in the capital city of Kathmandu and surrounding areas. More than 1 million children were in need of immediate humanitarian assistance.

With two offices in Kathmandu and more than 50 years of experience working in Nepal, Bhutanese refugee communities living in the United States knew they could turn to UNICEF to provide critical support to the people of the Nepal for short and long-term recovery.

Collectively, these communities raised over $19,000 to support UNICEF’s response to the earthquake, addressing water, sanitation and hygiene, education, health, nutrition, and child protection including psychosocial support needs.

We would like to recognize the following communities for their support:

Bhutanese American Organization of Philadelphia, PA

Bhutanese Community of Scranton, PA

Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh, PA

Bhutanese Nepali Community of Columbus, OH

Bhutanese Community of Greater Rochester, NY

Bhutanese Community Organization of Minnesota
