Vaccination against maternal and neonatal tetanus

MNT-endemic countries

UNICEF has been fighting maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) since 1999. At that time, there were 58 countries where it was still a considerable risk for women giving birth.

Working with partners, UNICEF has immunized 90 million women in 50 countries and MNT has been virtually eliminated in many countries, including Uganda, Mozambique, Turkey, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
