UNICEF Campus Initiative Summit

College student leaders gather for the 2014 UNICEF Campus Initiative Summit

Hillary Larman is a Program Engagement Fellow at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

Each year, UNICEF Campus Initiative student leaders from across the country come together to learn and share ways to make their impact greater.

This year, the weekend kicked off with the International Day of the Girl in Boca Raton, Florida. Campus Initiative students heard key note speakers, participated in topical workshops, shared insights and best practices with other leaders, and reviewed the resources and strategic direction of the U.S.  Fund for UNICEF Campus Initiative program. Speakers included Caryl Stern, President and CEO Of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, Jonathan Clyde, President and CEO of Apple Records, and Cara E Yar Khan, former UNICEF Child Protection Specialist.

The students then joined the Millennium Campus Conference for the remainder of the weekend, where 500+ students came together.

From the student’s perspective, some of the most valuable experiences throughout the weekend were the inspirational speakers, networking opportunities with other schools, and constructive feedback. Another highlight was an experiential learning session addressing how students can make their campus an official Fair Trade University and contribute to ending human trafficking, led by Emily Pasnak-Lapchick, Officer of the End Trafficking program at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
