Thanks a Million+ to American Airlines employees and customers
Thanks to generous American Airlines customers and dedicated employee volunteers known as Champions for Children, more than $1.34 million was raised in 2011 through UNICEF’s Change for Good program on American Airlines. Now in its 17th year, UNICEF’s Change for Good program on American Airlines is one of American’s largest—and one of its longest-running—employee-led charitable programs. It is primarily driven by the Champion for Children employee volunteers who encourage customers on select international American Airlines flights and Admirals Club lounges and Flagship Lounges worldwide to donate unused U.S. and foreign currencies to support UNICEF. Today at Miami International Airport (Gate D25) at 11 a.m. EST, American Airlines will be hosting an event with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. There will be speakers from both the U.S. Fund and American, live Latin musical entertainment by an American Airlines employee band, and artwork created by young local artists from the Miami Children’s Museum—all in honor of a milestone accomplishment. We are celebrating the fact that thanks to generous American Airlines customers and dedicated employee volunteers known as Champions for Children, more than $1.34 million was raised in 2011 through UNICEF’s Change for Good program on American Airlines, proudly supported by Airline Ambassadors International. Change for Good is a global UNICEF program launched in 1987 in which travelers’ donated loose change is converted into lifesaving programs and services for the world’s children. Now in its 17th year, UNICEF’s Change for Good program on American Airlines is one of American’s largest—and one of its longest-running—employee-led charitable programs. It is primarily driven by the Champion for Children employee volunteers who encourage customers on select international American Airlines flights and Admirals Club lounges and Flagship Lounges worldwide to donate unused U.S. and foreign currencies to support UNICEF. More than $5.4 million has been raised for UNICEF since the Champions for Children program was launched in December 2006. We are honored to be joined at the event by the following four Champions for Children who are being recognized as 'Super Champions' because of their dedication to the program: Adriann Raschdorf-Nelson and Evelyn Cordova based out of John F. Kennedy International Airport; and Andrea Hackim and Monika Kennel based out of Miami International Airport. Following the event, they will join other U.S. Fund for UNICEF and American Airlines representatives on a UNICEF field visit to the Dominican Republic, where Champions for Children voted to send a portion of their 2010 collections to support child protection programs, and will see firsthand the impact of their volunteer efforts.
