U.S. Fund for UNICEF: Shock and Sadness on the Deaths in Afghanistan

NEW YORK (October 4, 2015) – The U.S. Fund for UNICEF joins UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake in expressing shock and sadness over the killing and injuring of aid workers from Medecins Sans Frontieres and their patients after an airstrike in Afghanistan yesterday.

Whether they are targets of terrorists attacks, like the four UNICEF staff killed in Somalia last April, or caught amidst military fire, frontline aid workers risk everything to save and improve the lives of the most vulnerable.

Our society depends upon the sacrifice and relentless commitment of these heroes to restore human dignity to those who have lost it, wherever they are. For this, we are all immensely honored and thankful.

Our thoughts are with the families, colleagues and friends of those killed and injured yesterday in Afghanistan.
