Sports play an important role in the work of UNICEF—from UNICEF’s work in the field, to our partnerships with leading international sports organizations and athletes who raise funds and awareness.
International and national partners include the NBA, Major League Soccer, international soccer clubs (such as FC Barcelona), the International Cricket Council and Special Olympics. UNICEF counts many athletes among its Goodwill Ambassadors, including soccer great David Beckham. These athletes—and many others—help bring attention to the needs of children both in their own countries and abroad, by visiting field projects and supporting emergency relief efforts.
