Since 1996, Lions Clubs International in the United States and abroad have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for UNICEF's School–in–a–Box program—giving children in emergency situations around the world the chance to continue their education and begin the process of recovering from trauma.

After Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2005, UNICEF and its partner agencies—including Lions Clubs International—delivered more than 2,000 kits to the region, helping 160,000 children. Destinations for the kits have included India, Papua New Guinea, cyclone–ravaged Myanmar and Pakistan.

For more information on Lions Clubs International’s support of UNICEF’s School-in-a-Box program, please see the joint U.S. Fund/Lions brochure available electronically in PDF format or in hard copy by contacting the U.S. Fund at ngopartnerships@unicefusa.org.

"The purpose of School–in–a–Box is to ensure the continuation of children's education in the first 72 hours of an emergency. It is an effective means in bringing some normalcy back to school age children in the aftermath of a natural disaster." – Eberhard J. Wirfs (Lions Clubs International President)
