UNICEF/WFP Chiefs call for renewed support to Pakistan’s flood victims
The Executive Directors of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) today called on the international community to step up their support for the victims of the ongoing floods in Pakistan.

The UPS foundation awards UNICEF $2 million in financial and in-kind services through 2011
Today, the U.S. Fund for UNICEF announced a two-year, $1.25 million commitment by The UPS Foundation; bringing the organization’s total support for UNICEF to $2 million for 2010 and 2011, including $400,000 of cash and in-kind support for Haiti earthquake relief efforts. These gifts will support UNICEF's emergency preparedness and rapid response as well as to expand existing projects aimed at building the capacity of UNICEF and national counterparts in logistic activities. The grant will also establish an urgent humanitarian response fund that will enable UNICEF to quickly mobilize resources anywhere in the world.

Statement by UNICEF Executive Director on sexual violence in Democratic Republic of the Congo
UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake says that the reported gang-rape of at least 179 women and girls in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) must serve as an urgent call to stop the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.

"Mothers fleeing flooded homes with nothing but their babies clinging to their backs; people waving for help from the top of stranded buses as the waters rise around them; desperately thirsty children drinking from contaminated water sources. The humanitarian tragedy in Pakistan has reached tragic proportions. But serious shortfalls in funding are limiting our ability to save lives as the crisis worsens".

UNICEF’s Pakistan disaster relief operations in jeopardy due to funding shortage
UNICEF warned today that serious funding shortfalls are jeopardizing its humanitarian operation in Pakistan. UNICEF is extremely concerned at the lack of funds for its water and sanitation operation, with millions of children at risk from water-borne diseases.
