NEW YORK (September 2, 2010)—The U.S. Fund for UNICEF has been selected as a candidate for funding from American Express through Members Project®, a partnership between American Express and TakePart.

"The Members Project can help the U.S. Fund for UNICEF secure vital support for a project that will impact hundreds of thousands of children living in the most difficult conditions. We are grateful for the opportunity to turn support of our cause into real funds," said Rebecca Kalejaye, Manager of Corporate Philanthropy at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

Through online voting that has already begun and will end on November 21, the U.S. Fund can be one of five charities to share a total of $1,000,000 in funding. A win in this current round of voting could mean $200,000 for UNICEF child-friendly projects in refugee and displaced persons camps around the world.

Right now an estimated 20 million children and adolescents worldwide live in camps where malnutrition, disease, sexual predators and kidnapping are very real dangers. For many or them, the camps will be the only place to call home for years. That's why UNICEF is providing "child-friendly spaces" -- places where they can feel safe; where they can play, learn, and just be kids.

The Members Project can help the U.S. Fund for UNICEF secure vital support for these child-friendly spaces. Online voting has begun and is open to anyone who has joined Members Project. Voters can cast one vote weekly for the next 3 months, after which the votes will be tallied and the winners of this round will be announced.
