Welcome, Champions! The special UNICEF website created exclusively for registered Champions for Children has some new updates!
Your continued passion, dedication and enthusiasm surrounding UNICEF's Change for Good® program on American Airlines has really made the program "take off."
2010 FUNDRAISING RESULTS ANNOUNCED!!!

We are thrilled to announce that 2010 was another record-breaking year for UNICEF’s Change for Good program on American Airlines! Dedicated Champions for Children collected $1,609,844.65 from generous AA customers last year! As you may recall, 2009 was also a record-breaking year, with over $1.26 million in collections, which far exceeded expectations… and 2010 collections were 27% higher than 2009’s! 2010 collections will help UNICEF carry out its lifesaving work for:
-
children and families affected by the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti
2011 Change for Good
Collections
through November - children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in Latin America
- general UNICEF programs for children around the world
As a thank you to Champions and AA customers for their hard work and generosity in 2010, American Airlines hosted a "Thanks a Million+" event with UNICEF at JFK airport—please click here to see photos. You can read a blog post by JFK-based Champion Lynette Erskine, and a press release to thank you publicly for you incredible efforts! And don't forget to view the "Thanks a million+" postcard and poster created by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF as a special thanks and recognition for your outstanding efforts on behalf of the world’s children.
On behalf of UNICEF, American Airlines and Airline Ambassadors International, thank you for all of your efforts which have made the Change for Good program on American Airlines so successful, especially over the last year.
Voting Results: Roughly $280,000 collected in 2010 will support child protection programs in the Dominican Republic!
As a registered Champion for Children, one of your rights is to decide where a portion of the funds collected through the program will go. In May, you made your voices heard and overwhelmingly voted to send approximately $280,000 of the 2010 Change for Good on American Airlines collections to—
Option 1: Help protect vulnerable children from exploitation and child trafficking in the Dominican Republic.
This funding will help make a critical impact on the lives of children.
Children worldwide suffer from horrible acts of violence, exploitation and abuse—horrors no child should ever know or experience. Over 300 million of them are subjected to hazardous physical labor, commercial sex exploitation and child trafficking. The Dominican Republic is no exception. In fact, it is one of the countries where the figures for child sexual exploitation for commercial purposes have skyrocketed in recent years. Children are at risk of death, disease, poor physical and mental development, and homelessness.
By designating a portion of the 2010 Change for Good collections to Child Protection programs in the Dominican Republic, you are supporting UNICEF’s efforts to stop abuse and violence towards children and to protect vulnerable young people through widespread advocacy for children’s rights, child-family reunification programs, and services that address post-traumatic stress and help children reintegrate into society. The funds that Champions have collected will help empower children in the Dominican Republic through educational, life-skills, and prevention programs, allowing children to experience a true childhood.
YOU are helping to make a difference! Thank you for being a Champion for Children and giving your support to children throughout the world.
UNICEF Field Visits
Since 2006, a select group of Champions for Children have had the opportunity to travel to the field with UNICEF to experience first-hand the impact of your collections.
By clicking here or on the tab on the right-side of this page called "Field Visits", you can learn more about your fellow Champions’ experiences and travel along with them in some of these amazing trips.
Check out the new in-flight video!
We hope you are enjoying the Change for Good in-flight video that launched in August, and are showing it on-board your flights. Champions for Children "Trick-or-Treated for UNICEF" again last year through Change for Good

For the third year in a row, Champions for Children helped make a difference in the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children by participating in UNICEF’s 2011 Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign through UNICEF's Change for Good program on American Airlines. This iconic program is the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s longest-running volunteer movement and has engaged generations of grassroots supporters of UNICEF’s mission to reduce the number of preventable childhood deaths to zero. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF remains an inspiration to the young (and the young at heart) to further the cause of children everywhere.
American Airlines Champions for Children, employees and customers supported Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF via Change for Good on American Airlines through a variety of ways between October 24 and 31:
Champions for Children collected donations of foreign and domestic currency from American Airlines customers on select international flights. - American Airlines Admirals Club members participated by donating spare domestic and foreign currency in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF-themed donation collection boxes located in Admirals Club lounges and Flagship Lounges nationwide.
- As part of the American Airlines “Season of Giving” campaign, employees also had the opportunity to "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" through Change for Good by participating in a variety of workplace fundraising activities (see one of the fun activities in the photo to the right!).
Thank you for joining with UNICEF to make Halloween count this year through Change for Good on American Airlines!

The Snowflake Ball celebrates the great work UNICEF has been able to achieve thanks to its wonderful supporters—like all of you Champions! Suzanne shared her experience at the event by writing a wonderful testimony.
