Gary M. Cohen is an executive vice president of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company). He dedicates a significant amount of his time to addressing developing world health issues. He has served as the volunteer national chair and spokesperson in the U.S. Fund's efforts to assist children impacted by HIV/AIDS, and as a leader in the collaboration to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. He has been a speaker and expert panelist in policy and advocacy forums involving safe immunization of children and HIV/AIDS. In 2006 he was honored with the MESAB (Medical Education for South African Blacks) Corporate Leadership Award for devotion to improving health care in Africa. He is a board director of the Perrigo Company, the CDC Foundation and the Academic Alliance Foundation, a trustee of Rutgers University, and a non-permanent member of the private sector delegation to the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria.

Food interventions are crucial as Somalia faces worst-case scenario

Malnutrition is one of the biggest challenges facing Somali children today and according to an upcoming UN report, it could be getting worse. The report, to be issued by the Food Security Analysis Unit of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, indicates a worst-case scenario, according to UNICEF Representative in Somalia Christian Balslev-Olesen.
